We are honored to have a traditional lodge leader, Dan Gorbunow work with us to establish and offer this experience at Hay River FireHaven. The lodge is a dome-shaped, natural structure used by Indigenous peoples for purification, healing, and spiritual practices, often involving heated rocks and water to create steam. The Lodge has been called “the most powerful structure in the world.”
Dan Gorbunow serves the communities of wellness and spirituality with over 30 years of experience in holistic health, storytelling, depth psychology and ceremony. Dan's approach to ceremony and spirituality is deeply rooted in his background of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taoist philosophy. Dan's wisdom springs from many years of service on the Red Road of indigenous way of life through initiation and sacred give-away as a healer, helper, teacher, warrior, and ritual support. All faiths, genders, nations, and ages are welcome to participate in Dan's offerings. Among other achievements Dan is a recognized scabewis / helper and lodgekeeper, and ogitchidaa / warrior / dancer in Ojibwe-Creek including First Nations communities and a Chaplain for the State of Minnesota, Native American Prayer Services.
Hi, Dan G here. I hope to meet many members of this community this weekend for Beltane, and I'm thrilled to share some skills and teachings with you. Come and learn the sacred process of gathering and placing the willow which serve as the "bones" of the lodge. I will also offer some personal insights on the inter-cultural synergies between Celtic and Native American teachings, way of life and mythology. Happy May Day!
We're so excited to be able to offer this to the community. Our first ceremony will be on May 17th and we should be able to schedule a few each year if we get enough interest. Building will start around Earth Day in April, so come check it out. See the events page to sign up.
